This Is Exactly When The Twitter Character Limit Is Being Extended
It's a matter of DAYS.
Remember when it was announced that Twitter are planning to extend the 140 character limit on tweets?
Well the day is very nearly upon us and it's been revealed that September 19th is the official date that you will finally be able to do more with your tweets.
While the character limit itself won't appear longer, when you add media like GIFs, pics and quoted tweets, it will no longer affect the overall character limit.
So whereas before this type of thing would have taken up 24 of your precious characters, you'll now get these back to play with, so will have approximately three or four extra words to use every time you have a witty thought to share with the world.
According to The Verge, the rollout has now been set for September 19th, and will mark the biggest update to the way Twitter works since its launch.
If you didn't know, the original reason the limit was set at 140 characters was so a tweet would fit in a text, back in the days when you only had so many characters in texts or had to pay for a double message, and didn't have the joy of 3G to enable you to tweet directly on the go. Instead you texted your tweet to Twitter and they published your tweet on your account for you.
Gahd we feel old.
Still, this is pretty exciting news, no?
