This Is How To Tell That A Perfect Online Relationship Isn’t Really As Happy As You Think

True Love or True Lies? starts Monday 6 August at 9pm only on MTV!

Social media is not real life and the sooner we all realise that the better. People are constantly comparing themselves to the parts of people’ lives that they see online but in reality we only post the picture perfect versions of us that we want to show off.

Just like the couples putting on a loved-up façade in MTV’s brand new show True Love Or True Lies? (starting Monday 6 August at 9pm), the pretty pairs on social media that make you feel oh so bad about your own love life, might not be as perfect as we all think.

And a recent study found that the more that couples post about their love, the less happy their relationship actually is. The research shows that people who were actually content with their partner were too busy enjoying life to constantly post about it.

Maya Jama and Danny Dyer explain everything we need to know about True Love Or True Lies in this exclusive video:

Listen, don’t get us wrong, we’re not hating on love – we love love! But the some of these social habits may be a sign that the relationship you see on your phone screen that always makes you feel really single and alone, or just plain bad that you’re not as ‘in love’ as them, might be a bit rockier than you thought...

The long gushing captions...

Unless it’s your 50th wedding anniversary there is no reason to be spilling out your inner most feelings every other week about your person. You’re obviously with them for a reason but maybe it would be nice to say it to their face once in a while?

The massive pda...

We’ve all seen those inappropriate snaps where couples are naked in bed, sticking their tongue down each other’s throat or clearly post-sex. Apart from making us uncomfortable do you ever ask why they feel the need to scream to the world ‘WE’RE BONING AND FANCY EACH OTHER SO MUCH’?

The holiday album...

When a couple goes on holiday, constantly posts pictures of sunset selfies, then comes back and uploads 126 snaps of their time in Greece, it’s safe to assume they want everyone to witness the loved-up wonderful time they had. Put down your phone and go eat some Baklava hun.

The endless couple poses...

It’s nice to get a snap of you and your other half at a nice event or in an exotic location, but when it’s every single weekend at every single dinner it gets a bit much. Go enjoy the mozzarella stick together and forget about Instagram babes.

The multitude of inside jokes...

You know when you are with a pair of friends or a couple and they’re making inside jokes that literally make no sense to you? Well it’s almost as annoying when couple tag each other in Insta memes every single second of the day. Just Whatsapp it to them next time.

The ‘I have the best other half’ posts...

We’re super happy for you that your other half has bought you a new Gucci belt but maybe wait until someone asks you where you got it before posting online that you have the best boyfriend/girlfriend/husband/wife in the world because they bought you a gift. Just no.
