Top Tuesday: Tom Daley & Dan Goodfellow

Meet our career goal inspiration this week. SPOILER: there are two.

HELLO. Welcome to TOP TUESDAY, a weekly feature from MTV Breaks that’s all about celebrating the fine and fabulous people who have bagged their dream careers and have had the courage and conviction to take it all the way to the top! (#careergoals)

Cos being successful isn’t just about talent - it’s about hard work and determination.

So which inspiring career wizard has clinched our Top Tuesday title today? Drumroll… IT’S TOM DALEY… AND DAN GOODFELLOW!

That’s right, today we’re doing something a little bit special and awarding two people a joint title. That’s because they both completely smashed their final 10m synchronized dive last night at the Rio Olympics, bagging Britain a bronze!

We, like everyone else, love Tom Daley (/ are actually a bit obsessed). He started diving aged 8 after he spotted divers at a public swimming session he was at, and decided to have a go himself. By the time he was 10 he was winning the under 18 title at the British Championships. His Olympic debut was in Beijing in 2008, when he was only fourteen years old, making him the youngest GB Olympian ever.

He’s also just a generally excellent guy, with a crazy amount of charisma, and a YouTube channel where he uses his role as a er, role model, to be honest and open about his life. His popularity with the public is why in some reports of last night’s success he was portrayed as a solo star, and pictures of him were plastered over front pages, with his equally hard-working team mate Dan cut out.

So we want to make sure Dan is swimming (sorry) in glory too. Dan’s 19 years old, and when he was younger he used to look up to his now mentor, Tom. He overcame a nerve injury in his shoulder in his path to Olympic glory, taking a season and a half out of diving, before opting for the chance to dive with Tom at a pre-season camp in October. Dan pushed himself hard and managed to land a bronze, despite being thrown “in the deep end” (his words, not ours) as the pair haven’t trained together for as long as others, and this was his first competition since he returned to diving after time out. So he’s a PRETTY big deal, and we reckon he DEFFO deserves to be celebrated today.

So Tom and Dan just won Bronze Olympic medals, but they’ve struck gold with us. They’re total success stories because they have worked hard to achieve their dream. That’s why they’ve nabbed our Top Tuesday title this week. Happy Tuesday everyone!
