We Don’t Care Who The Mystery HIV Positive Celeb Is

Seriously. And neither should you.

This morning saw a headline so dramatic it could have its own reality show.

The Sun reported that “Hollywood Was Gripped By Fear” as it was revealed (sort of) that a ‘superstar Hollywood actor’ who remains unnamed has been diagnosed with HIV.

The article went on to list a few vague details about the actor’s womanising ways and ‘dangerous’ lifestyle, before topping it off with a picture of a male silhouette with a big question mark above it and even further silhouettes of his exes.

Fun guessing game, right? This has since caused a whirlwind of speculation and condemnation of the man in the media.

So who is this mysterious superstar? IT’S LITERALLY NONE OF OUR BUSINESS.

Frankly, we’re not interested and we don’t think anyone else should be either. While we agree that removing the stigma around HIV by talking about it is hugely important, this is absolutely NOT the way to do it.

For those who are HIV positive, learning your status is the first step in the journey of being able to live and thrive with the virus. While you should always be open about your status with your sexual partners to ensure their protection, deciding whether or not to reveal the information to other individuals or to go public with it is your choice and yours alone.

Whoever this celeb is, we should stop speculating and let him make his own decisions in his own time.

Meanwhile, let’s use the conversations generated by The Sun’s horrible fear-mongering to talk more about the importance of ensuring testing and treatment remains accessible to everyone and to de-stigmatise living with the virus.
