Scientists Have Worked Out What Your Dog Dreams About And It Might Make You Cry

*WILL make you cry.

Everyone knows that dogs are a man's best friend and that's just been proved even truer by scientists studying what your pooch dreams about.

Yep, if you've always wondered just what's going through your pup's mind when he's scrabbling about in his sleep, chances are it's not tennis balls or chasing cats but how much he or she loves you.

This revelation comes courtesy of Evolutionary Psychologists at Harvard, who have been studying doggie sleeping habits and have come to the conclusion that like humans, dogs most probably dream about you and how your react to them.

Further to this, they also reckon that what influences whether your dog has nice dreams or nightmares is how you treat them when they're awake. If you pet them loads, they'll have happy dreams, but if you tell them off and get angry, they will most likely have bad dreams.

“Humans dream about the same things they’re interested in by day, though more visually and less logically,” scientist Dr Barrett toldPeople. “There’s no reason to think animals are any different. Since dogs are generally extremely attached to their human owners, it’s likely your dog is dreaming of your face, your smell and of pleasing or annoying you.”

“The best way to give ourselves or our children better dreams is to have happy daytime experiences and to get plenty of sleep in a safe and comfortable environment," she adds.

"It’s a good bet this is also best for pets’ dreams."
