You Need To Watch MIA’s New Video For Boarders
Seriously, it's great
MIA has never been one to shy away from the big issues and, as a previous refugee of war torn Sri Lanka, she’s now waded in (at one point she literally wades) on the refugee crisis.
The video for Boarders, a politically charged fusion of eastern and western music taken from her forthcoming album Matahdatah, is as hard hitting as its lyrics. Asking “whats up with that” of everything from the internet to governmental handling of the crisis, MIA stands among hundreds of stoney-faced fellow refugees as they brave the perilous journey facing so many fleeing refugees from war torn nations such as Syria.
Amid boats made entirely of people and jagged barbed wire fences MIA is unafraid to shed light on the more unpleasant aspects of an issue it’s important to keep conversation focused on. As we head into winter with tens of thousands of refugees remaining in poor conditions in camps around Europe and the world, it’s more important than ever.
Oh and on a lighter note the video is awesome and the song is a total banger so check it out!
