You Won't Believe The Random AF Ways These Couples Met

Say whaaaaat?

You know those meet cutes in films where the couple bumps into each other in a romantic yet totallyserendipitousway? Yeah, we’re obsessed with those. Why can’t real life be like that? All we ever hear is “Oh I met her on Tinder’ or ‘Our friend introduced us’. And while we’re happy for you, babes, it’s a bit on the boring side, isn't it?

So we rounded up some of the most, maybe not romanticbut, certainly random ways that couple have met. So keep your eyes peeled, your soulmate could be that guy you’ve been stalking or the girl that was kissing your mate...

But first can we all just see Courtney Act do First Dates because we need it in our lives....

He was my flatmate...

"I first met my boyfriend Will at a flat viewing, having both agreed to live with a mutual friend we knew from university. It turned out we had been there the exact same time and never once met, despite having many friends in common. We couldn’t really stand each other for the first few months of living together and sent passive aggressive texts back and forth about washing up and leaving wet clothes in the washing machine. Pretty standard flatmate stuff. But after realised he actually quite liked me, Will decided to pursue it.

"At first I was having none of it, we were flatmates after all – how awkward, but he was very persistent and eventually I caved and went on a date with him. Three years later we’re still together and we’ve never actually lived apart, apart from when Will had to go to Arizona for eight months to do pilot training. Shockingly, he’s better at the washing up these days."

I stalked him online...

"After stalking my fiancé on Plenty of Fish and incessantly liking his photos for a month he finally replied to one of my messages. I had asked him out about three or four times and months later he actually told me he hadn’t wanted to come but his sister had persuaded him to.

"I bought a pair of shoes for our first date and since I love a bargain I got a great pair that were a size 10when I’m actually a size 12. The date involved walking around a park with ice cream and eventually my blisters were so bad I had to take them off and walk barefoot. LOL."

I poked him on Facebook...

"I first saw my husband Tom online when I was 25 and totally happy being single. I was living in London and working in theatre when one day I was on one of my Facebook groups and saw a thumbnail of a hot guy and thought he looked gorgeous. A quick stalk of his profile revealed he was a little younger than me but we had loads of similar interests and he lived in Cambridge. I’m not sure what made me do it, but I ‘poked’ him. Well, this was 2007 and something people did back then but still.

"Fairly quickly I had a poke back and a few days later he messaged me saying ‘Easy, I bruise like a peach’. I lolled and we exchanged a few more messages before a very nervy phone call in which he asked me for dinner. Back then it was super sketchy to meet someone over the internet so I shared his info with my friend and agreed to message her half way through the date. As my bus pulled up at the stop I saw him, dressed in crazy pinstripe trousers and I was smitten. That first date lasted 26 hours and we’ve been together ever since."

I stole his table...

"My husband and I met when in Edinburgh where we were both students after my friend and I jumped on their table in a bar thinking they’d left. Ten minutes later they came back to the table and just ignored us. I drunkenly whispered (shouted) to my friend that we should talk to them. Not surprisingly they heard and just laughed. But after speaking for a bit I realised this one guy was really handsome and we seemed to get on really well.

"It turned out we all lived really close to each other so we shared a cab home and somehow I ended up with his house keys. Cut to me chasing him down the street where he gives me his number. The next day I text him and the rest is history."

He offered me his seat on the tube...

"I was travelling from work to go meet a friend for dinner, and I get on the tube and it’s packed. As I step on, this guy sees me and gets up to offer me his seat. I say no and thank you so much but I'm fine but a few stops go by, and we keep exchanging glances. He gets up at his stop and I take his seat which is on the end by the door.

"The doors close behind him but about 15 seconds later they reopen again and he runs on and bends down in front of me. I take out my earphones and start looking on the floor thinking he’s left something behind but he takes my hand, puts his business card in it, says intently “please call me” and then runs off just before the doors close. I was baffled obviously and when I looked around everyone was smiling at me, having witnessed the whole thing with one woman even saying to me: ‘he’s cuuute’. I text him later being like “Well, George, do you make a habit of carding girls on public transport?” And we had our first date two days later."

I was kissing his mate...

"The first time I met my boyfriend I was actually kissing his friend in a club. We ended up at a house party afterwards and he would not close the deal by asking for my number. So I was surprised when his friend swooped in and asked me to go for dinner but I thought he was cute so I went for it. We’ve been together for two years now and every time we see his mate I kissed many lols are had."

He thought we’d slept together when we hadn’t...

"I started dating my ex in a really random and confusing way. He worked with a guy I was seeing at the time when I first met him. And started telling people we had slept together when we absolutely had not. I had to awkwardly tell my then boyfriend that it wasn’t true and it led to my friend confronting him in a pub. After that I became official with my then boyfriend and we dated for four years. Six months after we broke up, I bump into this other guy and we start messaging on Snapchat and eventually his lie became true. Oops."

I knew him for ten years before before we started dating...

"I first met my boyfriend when at school when I was 16 and he was 14 and we started talking because he fancied my best friend. A few years later we ended up at the same university and I realised that I had a bit of a crush on him. After kissing in clubs a few times it kind of petered out and we went our separate ways, though every time I saw him I always thought he was hot. After university I had moved to New York but we randomly started messaging a bit after seeing him during a trip back home. After I got home we dated for the Summer but then I moved to London and he moved near Birmingham. Cue us hooking up every time we saw each other and a very messy on/off thing.

"Over the next three years, every time we would start dating a little he would freak out and end it and I still have no idea why I continued to go back. Eventually he moved to London and I decided I’d had enough, telling him I just wanted to be friends. He apologized for panicking and lo and behold we started seeing each other AGAIN. This time it lasted four months before he cut the cord following me asking what we were doing. A classic story. Nine days later he came back and told me he’d made a mistake and wanted to give things a go. That was four years ago, ten years after we first met. He now loves to joke that our story is How To Get A Guy In Ten Years."
