‘What would you do if you won the lottery?’ is always a dangerous conversation to have. It starts off being pretty fun as you imagine mega shopping sprees, a human-sized pizza and owning all of the dogs in the world.
Things can soon turn fairly sour however, when you remember that you in fact haven’t won the lottery, and you’ve actually got about 86p in your pocket and will be eating leftover beans on toast until pay day. Oh life.
But the dream actually came true for Jane Park, when she became Britain’s youngest Euromillions lottery winner with a prize of £1 million.
It’s not all quite as peachy as it sounds though, as she’s now revealed that she’s planning to sue Lotto as her big win ‘ruined her life’. Right.
Jane was just 17 when she scooped one million pounds back in 2013, but fast forward a couple of years and she now says that she wishes she’d never bought that golden ticket on her lucky day.
If anyone fancies inventing a time machine so that we can help her out and take it off her hands, it’d be much appreciated.
Now aged 21, Jane has confessed that being a millionaire has left her with nothing but ‘stress’. And presumably a lot of stuff, but mostly ‘stress’.
“At times it feels like wining the lottery has ruined my life,” Jane told the Sunday People.
“I thought it would make it ten times better but it’s made it ten times worse. I wish I had no money most days. I say to myself, ‘My life would be so much easier if I hadn’t won.
“People look at me and think, ‘I wish I had her lifestyle, I wish I had her money.’ But they don’t realise the extent of the stress.
“I have material things but apart from that my life is empty. What is my purpose in life?” she said., adding that she thinks under-18s shouldn’t be allowed to enter for a prize draw as big as that.
Since landing the top prize in the Euromillions, Jane has splashed out on a boob job, two properties, a holiday in the Maldives, a purple Rang Rover and even a chihuahua amongst other things, but it sounds as though none of her extravagant purchases have made much of a difference to her life.
“I’ve read about other lottery winners who’ve just blown it all and I can totally see how it can be done,” Jane admitted.
“I was stuck in front of a financial adviser who was using words like investment bonds. I had no clue what they meant.”
Meanwhile, a Camelot spokesperson responded to Jane’s comments by saying: “We have been in touch with Jane from time to time since her win to offer ongoing support. It is always up to the winners as to whether they want to take up that support.”
It’s um, a bit of a tricky one to put yourself in Jane’s shoes and imagine how she feels. But um, it sounds really hard… we think?
