10 Things You Need To Know About LiLo’s Role In ‘Speed-The-Plow’

On Wednesday we won’t just be wearing pink to the office – as standard – we’ll also be wearing our Barbie-inspired ensemble to the Playhouse Theatre to see London’s hottest new resident Lindsay Lohan make her West End debut in David Mamet’s ‘Speed-The-Plow’. We simply can’t contain ourselves.

10 Things You Need To Know About LiLo’s Role In ‘Speed-The-Plow’

Karen is first introduced in Act One as a temp filling in for Hollywood film producer Bobby Gould’s regular secretary. She is new to Hollywood and really pretty.

As far as we can tell though, this Karen cannot tell if it's about to rain by touching her breasts.

Karen doesn't actually have much to do in Act One, only appearing on stage for a few minutes, but she becomes very important to the story at the start of Act Two when she is invited back to Bobby's house.

Not realising that Bobby has invited her back to his as part of a bet he has with his film producer friend Charlie Fox, Karen spends most of Act Two reading Bobby bits from a strange book about the religious significance of radiation...

…which makes her sound like a total virgin, we know. But after convincing Bobby that he should make a film based on the strange radiation book, we're not so sure... Especially after she tells Bobby she'll do "anything" if he makes the film!

Lindsay won’t be the first goddess of pop culture to tackle the role of Karen in ‘Speed-The-Plow’. ‘Mad Men’ star Elizabeth Moss, ‘Clueless’ babe Alicia Silverstone, and Her Majesty herself, Madonna, have all played the part of the ambiguous secretary.

When she was asked if her performance would be anything like Madonna’s, Lindsay threw some subtle shade at the Queen of Pop, insisting she was only one year old when Madge starred in ‘Speed’.
