The Official UK Charts in 2017: The Success Stories

Who dominated the UK charts this year?

2017 has been a fab year for music. Over the past 12 months alone, we've seen next-level awards show performances by the likes of Beyoncé and Selena Gomez and we've been blessed with incrediblereleases by everyone fromLorde to Nadia Rose.

Who managed to make a stamp on the UK charts though? Find out as we take you through some ofthe triumphs below.

One of the biggest success stories this year has been Little Mix. Not only did the living legends start 2017 on top of the albums chart with 'Glory Days' but since then they've released four hit singles and a Platinum Edition of their biggest album to date.

'Shout Out to My Ex' and 'Touch' haveboth shifted over a million chart copies, 'Power' is now Platinum, 'No More Sad Songs' and 'Reggaeton Lento (Remix)' are close behind with over 500,000 copies sold each and 'Glory Days' is still in the Top 10.

The girls haven't left the Top 40 all yearand with LM5 due in 2018, we're pretty sure that they won't next year either.

Little Mix weren't the only UK chart queens though. Kesha and Demi Lovato scored their highest charting albumsto date with 'Rainbow'and 'Tell Me You Love Me'both debuting in the Top 5. 'Praying' and 'Sorry Not Sorry' were also undeniable smashes.

Meanwhile, Rita Ora and Taylor Swift made huge comebacks. Rita scored three Top 10 songs ('Your Song', 'Lonely Together', 'Anywhere')and Taylor had her firstUK Number 1 single ('Look What You Made Me Do'), not to mention album('reputation).'

However, Dua Lipa was easily this year's runaway victor. After gaining buzz in 2015 and 2016, she properly blew up in 2017. 'Be The One', 'Scared to Be Lonely' and 'No Lie' were all Platinum hits and 'New Rules' became her first ever Number 1.

Meanwhile, newcomers includingStefflon Don and Mabel have scored their first Top 10 hits ('Hurtin' Me', 'Finders Keepers') and Camila Cabello's kicked off her solo career with two huge hits ('Crying in the Club' and Number 1 single 'Havana').

We cannot wait to see what all of thesewomen do in 2018 and which legends and newcomers will jointhem.

As for the boys, one man has reigned supreme. Ed Sheeran has sold over 2.5 million chart units of his Number 1 album'÷'and he's also managed to rackup four massive singles in 2017 ('Castle on the Hill', 'Shape of You', 'Galway Girl', 'Perfect').

Nevertheless, other men have dominated the charts too. All of the One Direction boys have enjoyed chart success as soloists this year. ZAYN scored two massive hit singles ('Still Got Time', 'Dusk Till Dawn') and has an albumdue out next year.

Not to forget, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson both landed three Top 40 singles. Liam soared into the Top 40 with 'Strip That Down', 'Get Low' and 'Bedroom Floor', while Louis made a splash with 'Just Hold On', 'Back to You' and 'Miss You'.

Meanwhile, Harry Styles and Niall Horanreleased hugealbums. Harry's self-titled debutpeaked at Number 1 and Niall's 'Flicker' entered the charts at Number 3. Also, both 'Sign of the Times' and 'Slow Hands' made major chart impacts.

Going into next year, we have no doubt that Ed and all of the One Direction boys will continue to prosper.

2017 was also major for rappers both from the UK and elsewhere. Stormzy led the pack with his Number 1 album 'GangSigns & Prayer'and all of its brilliant singles: 'Big for Your Boots', 'Cold', 'Cigarettes & Cush' and 'Blinded By Your Grace, Pt. 2'.

But there were other major players too. Kendrick Lamar scored his first Platinum single in the UK with 'Humble' and earned his third Gold album with 'DAMN. ' Also''fellow US rapper Cardi-B earned her very first UK Top 40 hit with 'Bodak Yellow'.

Perhaps, the biggest rap song of 2017 has been 'rockstar' by Post Malone and 21 Savage. It topped the charts for four weeks this Autumn. With a new album out next year, we have no doubt that Post willdominate the UK charts in 2018 too.

It was also a knockout year for one of UK rap's veterans. Not only did Giggs have multiple features on Drake's 'More Life' but the icon also scored his own Number 2 mixtape 'Wamp 2 Dem' and stars on Lily Allen's new single 'Trigger Bang'.

With albums duefrom the likes of Dave and Nicki Minaj, it looks like 2018 will be amazing forraptoo.
