Exclusive: Geldof – The Greatest Concert Ever
Geldof talks Live 8 and the importance of music for MTV special
Sir Bob Geldof talked of his hopes for the Live 8 event in front of an audience of young people at the filming of MTVs All Eyes on Tony Blair special today.
Geldof said preparations for the event had left him tired but he assured the audience that people wouldnt be disappointed. "I can't wait for the end. I'm telling you something you will never see this happen again. It will be the greatest concert ever."
The All Eyes on Tony Blair special, presented by Trevor Nelson, will be broadcast on MTV UK on Friday 1st July at 7pm.
"It is all the promise of rock'n'roll," he explained. "All of that promise will be made concrete in nine cities, four continents, one concert, 1,000 artists, all because too many people are dying on one continent and there will be eight men around a table on the 8 July, in Scotland who can put an end to that."
Geldof said that he believed that a major change in the policies of the G8 countries could be achieved. "We need a final push. That's going to be Saturday. 5.5 billion people, almost the totality of humanity. [Blair] is going to go to a 5 star hotel on a golf course and say to seven other guys, 'I come with the largest democratic mandate ever collected in the history of this planet to do this' "
