Rian Johnson To Write And Direct Next Star Wars Film
The Looper director is reportedly being lined up for the future sequel...
Director Rian Johnson is set to write and direct Star Wars: Episode VIII.
According to Deadline, Lucasfilm and Johnson are currently in talks to strike a deal for the next two instalments of the sci-fi franchise.
But The Wrap claims the filmmaker's involvement in the ninth Star Wars movie is limited to writing a treatment.
Johnson, whose previous films include Looper and Brick, has tweeted a 'prayer', supposedly relating to the deal.
The director shared a clip from the film The Right Stuff, in which the character prays that he doesn’t mess up.
The filmmaker told Digital Spy last year that he thought it unlikely he would be considered for Star Wars.
"I don't think I'm on those lists," he said.
"On the one hand, it's Star Wars, it would be very hard to say no to.
"I'm really enjoying just writing my own stuff, and right now that's what I'm doing... I don't think it's a problem that I'll have to deal with!"
Star Wars: Episode VII is currently being filmed by director JJ Abrams.
