Lorde Slams The Media’s “Lecherous Gaze” In Twitter Rant

The Royals singer was apparently hassled by waiting press at Auckland airport...

Lorde has taken to Twitter to slam the media's "lecherous gaze" following her return to New Zealand.

Following her double win at the Grammy Awards on Sunday (January 26), the Royals singer returned to Auckland and claimed that she and her family were "almost pushed over" by waiting press at the airport.

In a series of tweets, which the 17-year old has since removed, the star ranted: "I know that success comes with a price tag. it just sucks when you see that in your tiny home country where you previously felt safe.

"There is a difference between attn [sic] from fans, which I love, and the constant, often lecherous gaze that I'm subjected to in this industry."

Lorde went on to add that she feels scared that she is getting used to her "image as a public commodity".

She explained: "I understand that people of note are supposedly fair game for everyone to photograph and film but that doesn't make it acceptable.

"NZ media almost pushed over myself and my family at the airport this morning in order to get their shots, bit of a sad welcome if i'm honest."
