Exclusive: Love Island's Alexandra Cane Embraces Her Cellulite As She Talks Body Positivity

The Love Island star has teamed up with Protein World in a campaign that celebrates real beauty.

Alexandra Cane is all about female empowerment ahead of International Women's Day.

The Love Island star, who is the face of Protein World's #Inspiration campaign, spoke exclusively to us about learning to love herself, embracing her cellulite and why she's choosing to share unedited photos.

Understanding the impact of what we see on Instagram can have on women, Alexandra has been sharing completely unedited snaps to promote body positivity.

Talking about her campaign with Protein World, she said: "The main campaign is about my images being unedited, and it’s about body positivity while being healthy at the same time."

The 27-year-old babe says she's learned to love and accept herself more as she's gotten older, but she recalled a time she wasn't so accepting.

"There was a day when I was about 17 and I looked in the mirror and burst out crying and refused to go outside because I had cellulite... I just cried and cried," she said.

That moment is part of the reason she chooses to share real photos that show what might be considered 'flaws' according to our society's unrealistic beauty standards.

She said: "There’s always airbrushed images, getting rid of imperfection and flaws which makes us feel not beautiful."

"That’s why I wanted to work with Protein World, because [airbrushed pictures] giveus the wrong idea of what beauty is about," she added.

On whether she thinks reality stars have a responsibility to educate their followers, she said: "Each to their own – we each have our own place and role in whatever we choose to do."

But for her, coming from reality TV means she wants to be real with her fans: "As reality stars, this is 'reality', so we should continue to be as real as possible... whether or not you’ve had work done, you should just be honest about it and say 'this is me'."

"I think it’s a great message to send to young people because Instagram is a breeding ground for anxiety and depression because there are all these images that aren't even true," she added.

On being labelled the 'biggest one' on Love Island at a size 8, Alexandra said: "It didn’t make me feel bad about myself, I embraced myself even more because to me beauty comes in all sizes."

But she does hope for wider representation in the industry: "I believe that beauty comes in allshapes and sizes, and for me personally, I would love to see more at fashion weeks and bigger brands embracing curvier women and women of all colours."
