Reggae Star Murdered

South African icon Lucky Dube killed in what police are calling a botched carjacking.

The artist was dropping off his son in the Rosettenville suburb, when he was attacked by car thieves. Affectionately known as the shining star of African Reggae, Dubes career started in 1984 and he went on to become the first South African artist to break into the international music scene.

Ivor J. Haarburger, CEO of Dubes record label today remembered his friend and colleague:Lucky was not just an extraordinary artist, he was a personal friend. We go back over twenty years and had both a business and personal relationship. Its so sad to lose such a great friend and so tragically, why?

Lucky Dube released 21 albums and has shared the stage with legends like Sting, Ziggy Marley, Michael Jackson and Peter Gabriel.

MTV would like to extend sincere condolences to the stars family, friends and fans. May he rest in peace.
