Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee Leap To No.1 Thanks To A Little Help From Justin Bieber

Already a hit across the globe, Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee's 'Despacito' has edged up three places to claim this week's No.1 on the Official UK Singles Chart Top 40! 

After Justin Bieber jumped on a remix of the track, it's popularity with Beliebers worldwide has helped it score 31,000 downloads and 6.2 million streams this week alone, kicking off DJ Khaled's 'I'm The One' from the peak after just one week. 

Fun chart fact: 'Despacito' is the first foreign language UK No.1 single since PSY's 'Gangnam Style' hit the peak in September 2012.

Speaking to OfficialCharts.com, Fonsi said: “It’s amazing, I’m honoured. It’s my first Number 1 in the UK so it’s definitely a special one. I released the original song earlier this year and it’s slowly found its way to the top of the charts around the world. I’m so happy this song has connected with people even if they don’t necessarily understand the lyrics - it’s great to see people enjoying the vibe and feel of it.

“Thank you to Daddy Yankee who is a great artist and a good friend, and now Justin Bieber for jumping on the song simply because he loved the record. Let me tell you, Latino girls are loving Bieber’s Spanish right now!”

Elsewhere in the Top 40, French Montana continues his climb with 'Unforgettable' creeping into the Top 10 at No.8, while Shawn Mendes reaches a new high with 'There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back' at No.5.

This week's highest new entries go to Niall Horan, who's 'Slow Hands' debuts at No.25, and Jonas Blue hits No.29 with his brand new sun-tinged single 'Mama' Ft. William Singe.
