Lupita Nyong'o had one of the most-distinctive gowns on the red carpet at The Oscars this year, but sadly the £100,000 dress was stolen in the aftermath of the big event.

TMZ reports that the frock - decorated with 6,000 Akoya pearls - was stolen at some point on Tuesday from Nyong'o's room at The London Hotel in West Hollywood.

The 31-year-old star - who won the best supporting actress gong last year - told cops it was taken from her room sometime between 8am and 9pm Wednesday while she was out.

A rep for The London Hotel in West Hollywood said: "This is a terribly unfortunate situation, and we are working with law enforcement on their investigation."

TMZ reports that police are reviewing security footage from the hotel in the hope of collaring the culprit.
