Macy Gray: "I Like People Who Do Art For The Sake Of Art..."
The soul singer snubs record labels...
Soul singer Macy Grayhas said in an interview that she feels record labels are short-sighted in how they treat their artists. The singer said that she isn’t worried about getting chart-topping hits and overriding the success of her biggest hit to date with ‘I Try’.
She told Stylist Magazine: "I like people who do art for the sake of art. Actors have the luxury of making a big movie and then they'll do a little independent film. In music, it's almost like a crime if you do something less successful. Record labels are short-sighted. They want to make money and make that clear. I want to make money too, but my work is also an art."
"I think individuality is essential. God made us all different for a reason, and in order to feel good about yourself you have to really know your purpose and know why you're here, and that's singular to everyone. I think originality is the most important thing."
