Don Draper Is At The Wheel In New Mad Men Poster

Show's creator provides his analysis of promo image...

With less than two months to go until the final run of Mad Men hits the small screen, AMC has released a new poster featuring the man himself Don Draper.

And to save us the trouble of getting all super-analytical over what it might signify, show creator Matthew Weiner has been offering his thoughts.

He stressed that it was no accident that the troubled ad-man is in a car: "It's designed to tell you that Don is going somewhere.

"He could be going to work, he could be going away from work. But there is a feeling of, I hope, a little bit of a desperate drive.

"We see him in his car, and we see that he's alone, and I think you just have to basically feel that there's going to be a sense of motion."

And Weiner confirmed that the vehicle is Don's usual Cadillac Coup de Ville.

"That's Don's car — the late model Cadillac with the silver and red interior he was driving at the end of season six."

On the subject of the sun setting behind Don, he commented: "Is he driving off into the sunset because the show is? It's the end of a workday, clearly."

And while Don has previously had his tie perfectly in place in previous promos, the new image shows that he has loosened it.

"He looks a little unwound," is all Weiner would say on the matter.

He stayed equally cryptic as he addressed the fact that Don is looking in his car's mirror.

"I don't know if you could say he's looking at the end of the show in his rear-view mirror. But he's being pursued, and he's on his way. He's in the city — and he's on his way."

So now you know, maybe.

The second half of season seven begins early in April.
