Madonna's hopes of launching herself into the far reaches of space have been dashed today by the Russian Government. Despite having the support of The Space Agency, who felt her presence would help raise the profile of their mission plans, Madge has been forced to keep her feet firmly on planet Earth " for the time being at least.

A Space Agency spokesman commented suggested that the decision was not final, saying: "Taking into account her good physical preparedness and financial capabilities, the dream of (Madonna) Louise Ciccone of a space flight could be realized in 2009."

Fingers crossed for Madge and her dream of being the first star to reach the stars
