Mariah Carey To 'Copy' Beyoncé With Secret Album Drop
R&B diva also tells Billboard she is aware her last three releases failed to meet industry expectations...
Queen B surprised everyone last year after dropping her fifth studio album unexpectedly, with Mariah telling Billboard that she plans to simultaneously unveil reveal her new album's title, track listing, artwork and music via to-be-announced digital partners. The mum-of-two told the publication: "I have to be the one that announces this, especially the title", later noting that the LP is named after a "personal possession of mine that's part of an entity that I've had almost all my life."
While the #Beautiful singer doesn't directly reference Bye's previous example, she does add that much like the Drunk In Love singer, she is also planning to release physical copies of her album a week later - just like Queen B did.
In the article, Carey also acknowledges the fact that her three previous releases Triumphant (Get 'Em), The Art of Letting Go and You're Mine (Eternal) - failed to meet industry expectations.
The 44-year old admitted: "You would think I would be all about the singles-driven situation, and I am in a way, but with this particular album I want my fans to hear it as a body of work.
Let the good wind blow through your hair
With an ass like that and a smile so bright
Oh, you're killing me, you know it ain't fair, yeah
Ride on through the middle of the night
Let the moonlight kiss your skin
When you dance like that, your jeans so tight
Oh, you're killing me, baby do it again
You're beautiful, and your mind is fucking beautiful
And I can't pretend that doesn't mean a thing to me, to me, yeah
You're beautiful, good lord, you're fucking beautiful
And I can't pretend that doesn't mean a thing to me, to me, yeah, yeah
I like when you run red lights
Don't stop 'til you thrill me, oh how you thrill me
Always in control, how you do it, I don't know
But I don't care, take me anywhere
‘Cause it's beautiful, ooh you make me feel un-dressable
And I can't pretend that doesn't mean a thing to me, to me, oh yeah
"This is my life since we last left off. Just picture a dot dot dot, and then here's the album."
Mariah has been busy working on her 14th album since 2010, with the former American Idol judge promising: "I will always make music. When I said it could be my last, that's because tomorrow's not promised to anyone."
Carey's Billboard issue is due for release on May 3.
