Marina And The Diamonds popped in recently for a chat with MTV News.

The solo girl made nearly every publication’s ‘Tips For 2010’ list including MTV’s own 10For10.

Asked about comparisons with other females with big voices she explained: “I think with Kate Bush its really flattering and I’ve researched her a lot recently because of those comparisons, but I genuinely would never listen to her while I was growing up.

“Bjork I would never listen to except for that big song, I think people draw comparisons because we’re all creatively fearless artists and I like to do abstract videos.

She added: “I think Florence (and the Machine) is amazing but again I think the similarities stop at the ‘and the.’”

On her new single Hollywood the Welsh born star explained: “It was written about two years ago and it’s about a very simple innocent obsession with American culture.

“It’s themes are centred around rejecting celebrity culture feeling like you’re being pushed into a certain ideal to fit society. It’s also quite a light fun song as well and I think that’s symbolic in the video which is really fun.”
