Mark Ronson Hits Belfast

The producer was joined in Northern Ireland by a host of guest vocalists as he debuted loads of new songs and played some classics.

 

At the stunning Waterfront venue Mark started with a lengthy instrumental intro before he welcomed his mate Alex Greenwald on stage for their version of Radiohead’s Just. He also sung his own group Phantom Planet’s California and an electro version of Stop Me.

 

Rapper Spank Rock joined the live band for tracks including hip hop banger Ooh Wee and his own track Bump.

 

Ronson’s band included former Jamiroquai bassist Stuart Zenden, a Lily look-alike who deputised on a scuzzy version of Oh My God and female singer/ musician MNDR.

 

She performed one of her own tracks before joining Spank’ to play a great version of Bang Bang Bang in front of a retro computer-game-like red backdrop.

 

Of the new songs- from his Record Collection album released next Monday- it was Somebody To Love Me that most caught MTV’s ear.

 

The disco sounding track features Boy George, who got an amazing reception when he came on stage in his trademark purple hat and glittering suit. Ronson himself thinks its one of his best ever songs, and we have to agree.

 

Uber-cool Ronson spent most of his time in the centre of the stage on a raised platform, swapping between guitar, keyboards and drum pads. To close the set he brought out yet another guest in little Kyle from The View.

 

He sung on current single The Bike Song and covered for Mark’s new nemesis Amy Winehouse on Valerie.

 

After the show Ronson hit the decks across town at the Stiff Kitten nightclub bringing all his band with him and spinning big tunes for nearly two hours.
