"Mark was a gentle and loving person, a person of great creativity, who was doing his best to atone for some serious mistakes and errors of judgment. He is survived by his mother and father, and brother," the statement reads.
"The Salling family appreciates the support they have been receiving and asks for their privacy to be respected."
While no cause of death has been officially confirmed as yet, TMZ report that it may be linked to an apparent suicide.
Salling, who played Noah 'Puck' Puckerman on Glee, was awaiting sentencing after he pled guilty to possession of child pornography involving a prepubescent minor.
The charges were brought against him after a December 2015 search warrant found more than 50,000 images of child pornography on his computer and a USB stick.
As part of a plea deal, prosecution were to recommend a four to seven year prison sentence alongside an agreement that Salling would register as a sex offender and enter a treatment program.
The sentencing was set for March 2018.
