Maroon 5 Interview
We caught up with the LA native in his hotel suite over lunch while he was in the UK for a one-off gig. Maroon 5's follow up to massive selling album Songs About Jane is out this month.
Q: Hi Adam, How are you finding the UK?
A: I love it here. Its our home away from home. Weve been coming here on and off for a few years.
Q: How was your gig last night?
A: It was beautiful. Its always wonderful to see our fans. Thats the energy that we thrive off. They give us everything when we come over here.
Q: Is it true you were DJing in the met bar the other night?
A: Mickey our bass player was doing the spinning. I wasnt there as Im a recluse!
Q: Tell us about the new album It Wont be soon Before Long?
A:The songs are better and more fully realised. The production is more unique and bigger sounding- It has a fuller range and I take more risks vocally.
Q: You worked with producers Mike Elizondo (Eminem) and Mark Stent (Bjork, Gwen Stefani), how did they contribute?
A:A bands ability to self edit is never good. They took our ideas and harnessed them in a good way. All the producers were great in different ways.
Q: Who would you like to collaborate with?
A: Eminem or Dr Dre would be ideal. Hopefully it could happen if all goes well.
Q: You've said this album is sexier, how is it?
A:It has a larger penis. (He laughs)
Q: Is it more romantic?
A: There more romantic moments, more depressing moments and more sexual moments.
Q: Who were your musical heroes growing up?
A: The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder, The Police, I still value them as much as ever.
Q: Do you like any new British artists?
A: I like the new Arctic Monkeys album. Amy Winehouse has an unbelievable voice, I had no idea shes English. I like James Morrison too.
Q: Did you anticipate so much success for Maroon 5?
A: I think that this level of success is cool. We always dreamed about going platinum but selling 10 million records is f***ing crazy. We were shocked at the hugeness of everything. With this album we wanna sell 57 Billion though!
Q: Are you back in Britain soon?
A: We cant wait to get back to the UK for more gigs. I love coming here its a slightly different version of home but more British.
