When asked about how the tune became his winners single, Cardle told us: "I was a massive fan of that song, it was very understated. I think it got to twenty or something in the chart. It should have been No.1."
He continued: "As soon as they presented me with the opportunity to sing it, I just snatched it. I didn't let them change their minds. I would have hated to of sang Miley Cyrus, Alexandra Burke, she did a great cover of Pearl Jam. Something with that kind of stature to it. It’s not going to be your normal X Factor winner album."
The former painter-and-decorator, who performed atDavid Beckham, for the first time at the bash.
Matt admitted: "It was surreal. I was sweaty and stressed out. When I met him I was a bit p***ed off, and the first thing I did was swear at him."
"He asked me how I was doing and I went 'f***ing hell' and he was like 'oh, alright.' I could have said hello, but I went 'f***ing hell, it’s mad ain’t it.' Well least he knows I’m normal but it was great to meet him."
Cardle added: "I also met the Prime Minister. I was going to say (in an Essex accent) 'Alright Dave'. But no, I said 'Mr Prime Minister it’s a pleasure.' I was very polite. Him and his wife are lovely."
