If you've been waiting patiently to see what former Doctor Who star Matt Smith has lined-up after leaving the Tardis then this is your lucky day.

Just be prepared to be left with more questions than answers after you've seen the trailer for his next movie.

The 31-year-old star is seen shirtless and carrying a microphone in the promo for the Ryan Gosling-directed Lost River.

Formerly called How To Catch A Monster, the film's revised title could be an homage to master of the surreal David Lynch's Lost Highway.

And the taster promo looks like something straight out of a Lynch movie, with Smith repeating the line "look at my muscles" in a strange rhythm as co-star Iain De Caestecker approaches.

The film, getting a premiere in Cannes this week, also stars Saoirse Ronan, Christina Hendricks and Eva Mendes.

Smith looks set to go more mainstream with his movie projects in future.
