Matt McConaughey: I Wish Tom Hanks Was Up For An Oscar

The Dallas Buyers Club star says he wanted to hang out with veteran actor at Academy Awards...

Matthew McConaughey might be on the crest of a wave career-wise right now thanks to his Oscar-nominated turn in Dallas Buyers Club, but the star has been lamenting the fact that he won't be facing off against Tom Hanks.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter at the Academy luncheon yesterday at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, Matt said it was a shame the Captain Phillips star had been overlooked.

"I wish Tom Hanks was in there. It's kind of crazy that he's not. I'd like to hang out with him."

And his Oscar rival Leonardo DiCaprio once again defended the scenes of excess in Martin Scorsese's The Wolf Of Wall Street.

"There's a lot of disgusting behavior. We wanted this to be a cautionary tale," he explained.

"It was a reaction to what happened in 2008. It was a giant Hieronymus Bosch painting.

"Martin Scorsese has never been a director who spoon-feeds the audience what the ramifications of these actions are. He purposely didn't cut away to the [victims]."

The Academy Awards are being held on 2 March in Los Angeles.
