Guitar-playing super group McBusted have announced they’re headlining the Backstreet Boys.
Last month Mcfly and Busted, who are long-time friends and collaborators, announced they were joining forces to create a six-piece super group called McBusted. Only Busted’s original bushy-browed front-man Charlie Simpson decided not to re-join.
“Charlie’s not ready to do this but we talk to him all the time,” Harry explained, adding that the door is “always open” for him to join them.
Despite Charlie’s absence, McBusted are thrilled to be playing with the Backstreet Boys, having apparently put aside their differences. BSB apparently ruffled a few feathers when they admitted they hadn’t heard of ‘McBusted’, asking whether it was a type of burger.
“That’s a whole dream come true in itself,” said James of their special guests, apparently only half-joking. “Because I love the Backstreet Boys.” When asked what he would have said if someone had told him he would one day be sharing a stage with Nick, Kevin, Brian, AJ and Howie, he responded: “I would have said, quit playing games with my heart.”
The boys added that further “epic” special guests are still to be announced. “It’s just going to be a day of awesome pop music,” said Matt.
As well as the Hyde Park gig scheduled for 6 July 2014, McBusted plans for world domination also include plans to expand the upcoming tour abroad, with James particularly hoping to visit South America, while talk of a joint album raised coy smiles and a telling silence. Pipe dreams also include a McBusted musical and possibly even a film, with Danny suggesting that James could be played by the original Bourne himself, Matt Damon, and Leo DiCaprio would do a good Dougie.
In the meantime though, McBusted have the UK tour and busy personal lives to deal with. James was spotted out with Ellie Goulding recently, although he claimed they are “just friends” while Tom is expecting a baby.
How is he planning to balance his McBusted duties with his new responsibilities as a dad? “Err, I’ll do whatever I’m told,” he cheekily replied.
