Mel B's husband Stephen Belafonte has taken to Twitter to deny 'disgusting'rumours over her absence on The X Factor on Saturday.

The Spice Girls star was forced to miss the first night of the Wembley final after being admitted to hospital with an unidentified illness.

Mel returned for the Sunday night show, though viewers were quick to note that she was not wearing her wedding ring and soon began circulating rumours that there had been an incident of domestic violence between her and Stephen.

Having remained tight lipped up until now over the situation, Stephen tweeted this morning:"I don't usually respond to Twitter msgs but I will respond to comments of hitting my wife which I think are quite disgusting un true!"

Mel B thanked those who took care of her on the show last night, and when asked if she was on the mend, she responded: "Yes... ish."
