Melanie C and her partner of six years, Thomas Starr, are said to be "delighted" with the news of their pregnancy.

Chisholm, 34, sparked rumours she was expecting last week after she photographed in a flowing dress showing a rather rounded belly.

A source close to Mel told the Daily Mirror, "Melanie is over the moon at the prospect of becoming a mum for the first time."

The pop star who is the last of the Spice Girls to have a child revealed on their recent tour she was keen to start a family.

She said, "I'd really like to be a mum one day... My mum looks forward to having grandchildren."

Melanie's pregnancy news mean she will now join the Spice Girl motherhood along with Melanie Brown who has two daughters, Posh Spice Victoria Beckham and her three sons and Geri Halliwell and Emma Bunton who each have one child.
