The 2012 Barclaycard Mercury Prize Albums Of The Year shortlist has been announced, and the nominees are:

Plan B Ill Manors
Richard Hawley Standing at the Sky’s Edge

Sam Lee Ground of its Own
The Maccabees Given to the Wild
Plan B and Richard Hawley are the bookies' early favourites with William Hill giving odds of 4/1 on both to win, while Alt-J and Django Django are close behind at 5/1.
The 12 acts selected have been chosen to represent the best of British album releases over the past year, and include MTV Brand New For 2012 nominees Lianne La Havas and Michael Kiwanuka alongside more established artists such as The Maccabees and Field Music.
The overall winner of the 2012 Barclaycard Mercury Prize will be announced at the Albums of the Year Awards Show which takes place at London's Roundhouse on Thursday, November 1st.
