Paul Weller Favourite For Mercury

The award goes to a British or Irish album judged by ‘industry experts’ to be the best of the past year.

 

When the list was announced South London group The XX were installed as favourites.

 

But now Weller has been given 7/4 odds to win after a string of bets placed on him to win.

 

According to William Hill The XX are on evens, Wild Beasts are at 6/1, Foals 7/1, Laura Marling’s album is 8/1 and Mumford and Sons are at 12/1.

 

Both Dizzee Rascal and Corinne Bailey Rae are also nominated but are apparently outside bets to take home the prize.

 

The winner will be announced at the ceremony in Central London at 10pm.
