A Metal Gear Solid movie is definitely in the pipeline, it has been officially announced.
According to Famitsu, a film version of the popular game franchise was announced at the 25th anniversary event in Tokyo.
Already signed up to produce the movie is Avi Arad, whose previous credits include X-Men, The Amazing Spider-Man and Iron Man.
Describing video games as "the comic books of the day", Arad reportedly referred to Metal Gear as a "phenomenon" and vowed to stay true to the game's themes.
The film version was originally planned back in 2010 with producer Mike De Luca on board - but the idea was shelved due to a conflict between the movie's backers and developers Konami.
Meanwhile, fans of the franchise can look forward to Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, the next game in the series, which is due for release next year.
