Diplo ‘M.I.A Didn’t Want My Songs’

EXCLUSIVE | The producer tells us about her new record…

Producer Diplo has told MTV News that M.I.A didn’t want any songs produced by him on her new album /\/\/\Y/\.

Last week he wrote on Twitter: “just listened to mastr of the MIA album.. WOW.. my 3 trax are slammin! dunno bout the rest-sounds like skinny puppy & gives me nightmares.”
At the time MTV was in a room with M.I.A and told the star about the message. She expressed shock that he had heard the finished album.
Now Diplo’s exclusively told us: "yes she is surprised, but i got as many crew at (M.I.A’s US label) Interscope... she didnt want to put any of my records on it like last time :( "
He added: "She will do anything to discredit me."
The influential DJ produced most of her M.I.A’s debut Arular and her biggest hit Paper Planes- which featured on her second album Kala. He’s since remixed artists including Gwen Stefani, Britney Spears and Hot Chip.
M.I.A and Diplo were also a couple before falling out. In the recent New York Times profile of her he said:
“Her boyfriend really hates me… Even if she hates my guts, she knows that we can do crazy stuff together. The sound on her records is unlike anyone else’s, and we all take that very seriously.”
“For me, making this record wasn’t easy. In the past, we were a team. But Maya wanted to show us how much she didn’t need us.”
