MiC LOWRY Reveal All About Getting To Travel Through Europe With Justin Bieber
One of the UK's hottest new pop groups came into MTV Towers to talk us through getting on the 'Purpose' tour.
Richard Linklater’s films, especially Boyhood and Dazed and Confused, really nailed what it’s like to be a young person - because not a lot happens in them. Instead of a meaty plot, the films depict young people driving around looking for things to do. It’s realistic. It’s what being a teenager is actually like. Those films may both be set in America, but the same applies to growing up here in the UK. For most of us, we didn't really do that much.
Unless, of course, your name is Ben Sharples, Kaine Ofoeme, Akia Jones, Delleile Ankrah or Michael Welch - the five names that make up pop group MiC LOWRY. Last year, they won the 2015 MOBO Unsung prize. This year, they’re supporting Justin Bieber on the European leg of the ‘Purpose’ tour.
On the one hand, you feel really happy for them. On the other, you might feel a bit guilty because, if you’re like this writer, it might be rapidly dawning on you that you didn’t do much for the first 20 years of your life at all.
Seeing as not every teen spends time touring Europe with Bieber, we decided to bring the group into MTV towers for a chat. Amongst a lot of other topics (full video interview is incoming), we had to ask how the hell they managed to get onto the ‘Purpose’ tour:
“[Bieber’s management] just asked us if we’d want to jump on the Bieber tour and obviously we had to check the diary…” they joked.
“We had to cancel a few things but we got there in the end.
“Our managers actually knew a long time before us and just kept it from us…that’s like… heavy.”
Watch a segment from our interview above, and stay tuned to MTV for the full interview.
