The 12-year-old Britain’s Got Talent star from Swansea, South Wales, who previously played the young Michael in the stage production of Thriller, held his nerve to belt out a spine-tingling rendition of the Jackson 5 hit Who’s Lovin’ You; a performance that will no doubt make him a global star.
Taking to the stage after a video clip of Michael singing as a child, Shaheen himself exuded some of the brilliance beyond his years that was so uniquely abundant in Jackson, leading to a slew of comparisons between the two. “When that little boy started singing,” said one memorial attendee, “It was like Michael was here, his voice was so powerful – it was the most moving part of the ceremony.”
Motown founder Berry Gordy was also among those blown away by Shaheen’s performance: “I had no idea who he was,” said Gordy, “but I’d sign him tomorrow.
