Miley Cyrus Returns With Breezy New Single ‘Malibu’ & A Very Chill Music Video

"This is Miley leaning into her roots more than I've ever heard," dad Billy Ray Cyrus shared with Billboard. "For her, this is honest."

Miley Cyrus is back, and things have changed. Twerking? Gone. Sticking her tongue out? Gone. The pop bangers? Replaced with something that leans back on her roots and feels far more honest for it. We're into it. Check it out below.

‘Malibu’, Cyrus’ first single from her sixth album, is a warm, breezy love song – full of jangly guitars, kick drumming, hand claps and almost-whispered vocals - that the singer herself seems surprised to have written, singing in a verse: “I never would’ve believed you / if three years ago / you told I’d be here writing this song”.

The sun-drenched video - directed by Miley and Diane Martel - sees Cyrus having the best possible day anyone could ever have on their own as she dances in fields, cuddles a doggo and plays with balloons. Miley Cyrus is goingenjoying her best possible life (and having a nibble on her jumper), and we’re all in for it.

Miley will be performing the new single for the first time next weekend at the Billboard Music Awards.

The 24-year-old released the artwork for the new single; a photograph taken by fiancée Liam Hemsworth, yesterday (May 10), and it’s quite lovely.

In other news, Miley Cyrus’ younger sister, Noah, is delivering the straight-up pop bangers that Miley is leaving behind. She also happens to be this month’s MTV PUSH artist. Want to find out more? Of course you do. Head here for an exclusive live performance and interview.
