When Miley Cyrus posted a snap of her VMAs "date" on Instagram, the world wondered whether Mi-Cy had bagged herself a new boy toy.

However, when the star won the Video of the Year Moonman for Wrecking Ball, all became clear when themystery man - now identified as Jesse - took to the stage to accept the gong on Miley's behalf.

When accepting Cyrus' trophy,Jesse -who was once homeless himself -spoke in detail about his own personal struggles and how thereare 1.6million runaway and homeless teens in the US.

A clearly emotional Miley could be seen looking proudly on as he made his speech, with the We Can't Stop star later explaining her involvement with the organisation in a statement: "I'm just getting started and I want to make sure my fans are part of helping me to give back and make an impact on this issue – we all have the power to make change happen.

"My Friend's Place is so grateful for Miley's genuine interest and involvement in supporting homeless youth in Los Angeles," added My Friend's Place Executive Director Heather Carmichael.

And it seems Jesse had a whale of a time at the bash being Miley's date, with Cyrus taking to Instagram to post a snap of them wearing In-N-Out Burger hats, along with the caption: "Me and my hero at in n out celebratin (sic)."
