Miley Cyrus' VMAs Date Sentenced To Six Months In Prison

Jesse Helt accompanied Mi-Cy to this year's bash to raise awareness about youth homelessness..

Miley Cyrus' VMAs date Jesse Helt has been sentenced to six months in prison.

Mi-Cy caused a stir at the ceremony in August by sending Helt up on stage to accept her Video of the Year Moonman for Wrecking Ball, where he delivered an inspiring speech about youth homelessness.

However, it seems Jesse - who once lived on the streets - is still battling his demons, with the 22-year old sentenced to six months behind bars on Tuesday (October 7).

Page Six reports that before Jesse left the Dallas, Oregon courtroom, he told Judge Monte S. Campbell that he would “like to be viewed as a good person, not a nuisance to society.”

He will receive credit for 57 days previously served.

[related]Helt’s legal troubles began in 2010 when he was arrested for breaking and entering in his native Oregon.

He subsequently violated probation and failed to complete his court-ordered community service before moving to Los Angeles, where he worked sporadic jobs and frequently found himself homeless.

Cyrus - who met Jesse through My Friend’s Place, a shelter for homeless youth in L.A. - is yet to comment on the news.
