Military Wives Leader: 'I Feel Like Bieber'
Choir's single set to become Christmas No. 1 with massive sales...
Military Wives choirmaster Gareth Malone has joked that the choir's massive sudden popularity has left him feeling like Justin Bieber.
The 36-year-old, who has fronted several choir-based reality shows for the BBC, has given an interview to The Sun in the wake of the news that the choir's single, Wherever You Are is the fastest-selling track in the UK for six years.
Midweek sales figures show it outselling the rest of the top 20 records in the Official UK Singles Chart combined.
Gareth said: "It's been a whirlwind year. I now have an insight into what it must be like to be Justin Bieber, but only in a very poor and slightly lame way.
"We are on an absolute high. We are the fastest-selling single in six years and are favourites for the top spot. We are looking good but it's by no means a done deal.
"These moments don't come around very often. I can think of very few things this exciting."
And he also revealed that Simon Cowell had tweeted his congratulations when it was revealed that Military Wives had sold more in 48 hours than The X Factor winners Little Mix did in the entire previous week.
The Choir: Military Wives has seen Gareth teaching women from Royal Marines Barracks Chivenor, North Devon, to sing while their husbands served in Afghanistan.
The proceeds from the single's sales will go to military-related charities.
