Military Wives Take Christmas No. 1 Spot

Forces' charity single tops chart on Christmas Day...

Military Wives have taken the top spot in the Official UK Singles Chart this Christmas with Wherever You Are.

The ladies, as seen on the BBC's The Choir, outsold X Factor winners Little Mix and the rest of the top 12 combined to go to No. 1.

They shifted 556,000 copies of their track in the last week, with Little Mix's Cannonball selling 117,000 to get to No. 2.

Choirmaster Gareth Malone said: "This is so surreal. Who would have guessed in those first rehearsals that we could take Christmas Number 1? It's testament to the Military Wives' hard work and the nation's support of them, as well as the power of choral singing.

"It's a winning combination - a Christmas No. 1 winning combination! Thank you to the British public for supporting the Royal British Legion and SSAFA Forces Help by buying this single.

"The support of the British military for the choir has been fantastic. I'm delighted that they have found their voice. We did it!"

Lou Monte's Dominick The Donkey was at No. 3 and Alex Day's Forever Yours at No. 4 - while Coldplay rounded out the top 5 with Paradise.

Over in the Official UK Albums Chart Michael Bublé hung on to the top spot with his Christmas album, while Amy Winehouse's posthumous Lioness: Hidden Treasures album also stayed put at No. 2.

Olly Murs tireless work schedule may have helped him edge back up a place to No. 3 with In Case You Didn't Know and Coldplay's Mylo Xyloto slipped down to No. 4.

was a non-mover at No. 5 with Talk That Talk.
