Minecraft's New Marketplace Lets You Buy And Sell User-Made Stuff And It Will Change How You Build

Finally, a way to make money with Minecraft!

You’ll soon be able to purchase user-made content on a new Minecraft marketplace.

As part of the Discovery update, the new Marketplace will let you browse the cool user-generated content, and buy and keep the stuff you like best.

“We’ve partnered with heroic ‘crafters well-known to the community to build up a launch catalogue of amazing adventure maps, texture packs, minigames and more,” says an update on the Minecraft news blog. “Noxcrew, BlockWorks, Qwertyuiop The Pie, Blockception, Sphax, Eneija, Imagiverse, Polymaps and Razzleberry Fox are the folk on board at launch.”

“The idea is to give Minecraft creators another way to make a living from the game, allowing them to support themselves in the creation of ever-greater projects, while giving Pocket and Windows 10 players access to a growing catalogue of fun stuff - curated and supplied by us, safely and simply,” it adds.

So, how will it work? To do this, the fine folks at Minecraft have developed a new currency system - imaginatively entitled Minecraft Coins - and with these you’ll be able to make in-app purchases, of which the creator keeps “the lion’s share” of the income.

You’ll have to buy the coins with real money, obvs, and we don’t know what kind of prices the marketplace will charge, but we’ll keep you posted!

For now the marketplace is only available for Pocket (though not iPhone versions) and Windows 10 players by way of your Xbox Live account, but Minecraft is in talks to see how it can introduce the marketplace to other platforms, too.
