6 Of The Best Action Movie Stunts EVER
These action movie stunts had us holding on to our popcorn for dear life...
Mission: Impossible - Fallout hits cinemas this week, and it's being hailed as one of the greatest action movies EVER. It's not a surprise, really, given the movies are renowned for performing their own stunts, rather than relying on CGI. To celebrate the new movie, we've rounded up some of our favourite action movie stunts of recent years...
Mission: Impossible - Fallout: The HALO jump
The HALO jump sequence in Mission Impossible Fallout is enough to make a Yeti’s blood run cold. Tom Cruise leaps from the back of a military transport and free falls at 200 miles an hour, before opening his parachute at perilously low altitude, and landing a metre from the camera. Like. It. Was. Nothing.
Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol: Exiting the Burj Khalifa
In possibly one of the most outrageous stunts ever, Tom Cruise jumps from the shattered window at the top of the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, and then scales the outside - without a stunt double. Frankly our knees go wobbly just at the prospect of riding the lift in this 160 storey skyscraper.
Fast and Furious 7: Cars don’t fly!
We literally stood up and hollered when Vin Diesel drove a Lykan HyperSport between the Etihad Towers in Abu Dhabi. No biggie you might think, but he was 260m in the air at the time. Fast & Furious movies are awash with ludicrous action, but this remains our fave (although that same movie’s car parachute drop runs it a close second)...
Black Panther: T’Challa Vs Killmonger waterfall fight
Don’t tell Chadwick, but his traumatic waterfall wrestle with Michael B. Jordan’s Killmonger is so fabulously balletic we couldn’t help rooting for both sides. The fight ends with a beaten Panther taking a serious dunking. It was never going to end well. Did no one tell him cats don’t like water?
Skyfall: Oi! Bond! Crash helmet!
Bond movies rarely skimp when it comes to outrageous stunts, but even by 007’s crazy standards, the opening of Skyfall is certifiably nuts. A hair-raising motorcycle chase through the Grand Bazaar of Istanbul, up winding stairs and across rooftops before taking a train, is enough to leave everyone shaken AND stirred.
John Wick 2: Riding the Ford Mustang
We all know Keanu Reeves is Kung Fu Matrix Master, but it turns out he can drive too. In the opening car duel of this hitman sequel, he drifts at high speed through impossibly small spaces, twirling his vintage Ford Mustang like a conductor’s baton... and what sweet metal-mashing music he makes!
