Moonlight is a film for anyone who’s ever been on the outside of a tribe, looking in.

“I remember being a kid and thinking: ‘I’m the only person in the world dealing with this,'” writer and director Barry Jenkins told MTV. “'I’m the only one in the world who doesn’t feel comfortable in their own skin.’”

With 8 Oscar nominations, Moonlight – which tells the heart-breaking story of Chiron, a young gay black man struggling to come to terms with his identity – is on the verge of picking up a bucket-load of golden gongs.
