FIF: Ashton Sanders

Ashton's all set to conquer the film world, and all because he said a big fat "f**k it!" (probably).

Hello and welcome once again to MTV Breaks’ F**k It Friday where we say a big “f**k yeah” to the most excellent people who’ve said “f**k it!” (probably) and taken a leap of faith to make big things happen.

Cos it’s not about just having ideas – it’s about driving them forward against all odds!

So who’s next to sit on the FIF throne this week? It’s ASHTON SANDERS!

He’s the 21-year-old American actor who starred in ‘Straight Outta Compton’ but had his breakout role in ‘Moonlight’ this year – a movie all about black male identity and perceived masculinity. His future in film is bright, as ‘Moonlight’ has been hugely praised and the casting offers have started rolling in.

But Ashton hasn’t always had it easy. When he was growing up, he experienced many of the things that the character he plays in ‘Moonlight’, Chiron, does in the film. Not only did he have to deal with drug addiction within his family like Chiron, but he was bullied at school for doing acting as it wasn’t seen by others as suitably “masculine”. He was also bullied for being skinny and being black. He was seen as different.

But what did Ashton do? He said “f**k it!” and pursued acting despite being picked on, and look where it got him! He quit his studies after being cast in ‘Moonlight’ and not only could he use the feelings that his bullies made him feel to portray Chiron to perfection and propel himself to fame, but he said he massively grew as a person by doing so.

“I’m stoked to be able to play this character and represent so many people – whether it’s the others or the LGBTQ community. It’s awesome that my job is to make people have reactions,” he told Teen Vogue. “This is gonna make a lot of people in the black community feel uncomfortable, but for the right reasons.”

Ashton may be relatively new to film, but he’s all set to take the world by storm, and all because he said “f**k it!” (probably) and decided to pursue his acting dreams, despite his bullies. You’ll never be special if you’re not different, after all! That’s why Ashton’s sitting on top the f**k it throne this week. Bow down.

HAPPY FRIDAY EVERYONE!
