Kesha is Queen "f**k it!" this week.
Well HAY there, and welcome to MTV Breaks’ weekly “F**k it!” Friday feature – where we raise our glasses to all the career gals/guys who made it big-time by saying “f**k it!” (probably).
Cos it’s one thing to have big ideas, but another thing entirely to believe in yourself enough to follow them through – and that is KEY.
So who’s up next in the FIF roll call of honour? Drumroll… it’s KESHA!
Kesha’s a fiery chart-topping singer, songwriter and rapper well known for her unpolished rock and roll style and brazen attitude. Among her MANY successes was when her 2010 debut album Monster stayed at number 1 for nine weeks and when its title track Tik Tok sold a record-breaking 15 million copies.
Kesha was trying to break into the music industry for YEARS before she hit the big-time. She worked as a waitress to support her back-up singing gigs and sang for pop greats Britney Spears, Katy Perry and Flo Rida, all the while writing music for other artists and building up a collection of songs for herself.
So yes, Kesha was always a “f**k it!” Queen, but what we’re REALLY celebrating this week is the fact that Kesha speaks her mind and expresses her views. Like when Kesha recently partnered with NEDA (National Eating Disorders Association) to promote their confidential screening on Twitter (it tells you whether you might have an eating disorder based on some multiple questions). Kesha has been very public about her own eating disorder battle, and she’s doing loads to raise awareness and let fans know if they are not alone.
Among the other things Kesha has been amazing at raising awareness about are mental health problems. She’s had a traumatic time, not least because of the very public and painful process of taking the producer Dr. Luke to court for reportedly subjecting her to mental manipulation, emotional abuse and sexual assault over a period of ten years, and she publically talked about having anxiety and depression in December. “Finding the strength to come forward about those things is not easy,” she told Billboard. “But maybe, by telling my story, I can help someone else going through tough times.”
Basically, Kesha is a “f**k it!” Queen in staying true to herself and being loud and proud about her views, without caring about what the reaction will be. She’s brave, she’s inspiring and we reckon she’s well deserving of the FIF crown this week.
