FIF New Years Edition
It's "f**k it!" Friday, with a twist.
Hey guys and welcome once again to MTV Breaks’ F**k It Friday! Usually FIF means saying a big “f**k yeah” to the most excellent people who’ve said “f**k it!” (probably) and taken a leap of faith to make big things happen.
But that’s not what we’re doing this time. This time, as New Years Eve draws ever closer, FIF is starting to acquire a different meaning…
2016 has been… a little bit of a shocker. Even if Brexit and the US presidential election results went the way you had hoped, there’s no denying that the whole year has been a little bit…catastrophic. In Europe alone there was the Brussels bombing in March, the Nice truck attack on Bastille Day and, most recently this month, the truck attack in Berlin at a Christmas market.
Meanwhile, elsewhere, the wars in the Middle East have been raging, the refugee crisis has been one of the biggest humanitarian disasters of our generation and the Orlando shooting in Florida was a direct and brutal attack on the LGBTQ+ community.
Not to mention all of our most loved celebs dropped off the face of the earth. Goodbye Prince. Goodbye David Bowie. Goodbye Professor Snape. (See this video for more details on the horrors of 2k16.)
So instead of glorifying the use of the phrase “f**k it!” this week do you know what we’re shouting from the rooftops?
No, seriously, 2016 can f**k the f**k off. It’s about time we put an end to it. Thank goodness we only have one more day to go and then we can write it off and pretend it wasn’t one of the worst years we’ve ever lived through. Ever.
But even if things aren’t going to be perfect next year, we’re going to do everything in our power to make 2017 a hell of a lot better. Let’s say no to fake news, xenophobia and grabbing women by the p**sy, and welcome in a new year of truth, kindness and empathy. Let’s fight for what we believe in, support the movements we care about, and just generally make the world a better place in any way we can.
I BELIEVE IN US.
Have a good New Years, everyone! And let’s all raise our glasses of vodka coke and say a big “f**k you” and farewell to 2016, and a big hello to brand new beginnings come midnight.
