F**k it Friday: Emily Blunt
The woman can do no wrong.
HI THERE. Welcome back to F**k It Friday - a weekly feature from MTV Breaks that’s all about saying a big “f**k yeah” to the most excellent people who’ve said “f**k it!” (probably) and taken a leap of faith to make big things happen.
Cos it’s not about just having ideas – it’s about working hard, seizing opportunity, believing in yourself, and 100% following them through!
So who’s next up in the FIF roll call of honour? Drumroll… it’s EMILY BLUNT! Emily is an actress with an incredible resumé. She’s well known for her recent roles in films like ‘Into The Woods’ as The Baker’s Wife, and as the bitter ex-PA of the crazy fashion boss in ‘The Devil Wears Prada’, but she’s had a long and successful career. She’s mega-talented at acting AND at singing, and she was once engaged to Michael Bublé… it’s pretty safe to say she’s been living the high life.
But why are we celebrating her this Friday? Well did you know that Emily was originally spotted for her singing? Yep, she got a record contract at 18 but in order to succeed they wanted her to have a certain image. She told the Sydney Morning Herald, “I got terrified… I felt they were wanting me to be like Britney Spears. And I was like, ‘I can’t dance’”.
So what did she say? Emily said “f**k it!” (probably) and pulled out of the contract because she was sure it just wasn’t for her, even though she was young and still without a stable career path, so could easily have been convinced. TBF we can’t imagine her dancing with a snake draped around her shoulders, seductively murmuring, “it’s Emily, b**ch”…
Not only did she turn down this opportunity, but she also headed straight into acting without going to drama school, and simply soaked up all the knowledge and advice she could from other people along the way.
Emily is the perfect reason we should all say “f**k it!” (though not loudly in front of important career people, obvs) and follow our own hearts when pursuing our careers. Emily got where she is today from determination and talent, without sexy dance routines and tiny hotpants, and without following the crowd.
That’s why we’re celebrating her today. (Also her new film ‘Girl on the Train’ is publicized everywhere at the moment, and Emily plays a multi-faceted and complex female lead, a type of character that is still rare in Hollywood!) Basically she’s an all-round star, and we can’t think of a worthier “f**k it” Queen this week. Bow down 2 Blunt.
HAPPY FRIDAY EVERYONE!
