"F**k It!" Friday: Jim Carrey
He may be king of all comedians now, but he wasn't always...
We’re back for “F**k It!” Friday, where we celebrate all the celebs who’ve clambered their way up to the lofty heights of stardom by saying two very important words - “f**k it!”.
Because sometimes (most of the time) the only thing holding us back is actually ourselves - success is about 100% committing to your ambitions and MAKING your ideas happen.
Who’s this week’s FIF celeb of choice? Drumroll… it’s JIM CARREY!
As a comedian, impressionist, screenwriter and producer, Jim is in no way lacking any talent (he can sing as well, btw). Best known for his screen roles in blockbusters like Ace Ventura, Liar Liar, Bruce Almighty, The Grinch and The Truman Show, Jim specialises in goofy humour, contorted facial expressions and big characters - he’s known all over the world as a totally unique talent.
But how did he become world-renowned?
Jim said that his father wanted to be a comedian but was torn between risking pursuing those dreams or getting a steady job to support his family. BUT when Jim was just twelve years old his father lost his “steady” accounting job and the family was plunged into desperate times, struggling to get by.
And when Jim, who also wanted to pursue comedy, saw this do you know what he said? Yep, he said “f**k it!” (probably) and decided that if you could fail pursuing a steady career that you hated, it made JUST as much sense to risk pursuing something you love.
Jim poured his heart and soul into stand-up from the age of just fifteen, driving long distances just to perform free gigs every other night. He performed and perfected for a long time until eventually people started to notice.
Jim’s our career inspo this week for absolutely 100% going for his dream career with unrelenting determination because he knew that, sure, some careers you love may take you on an uncertain path, but it’s better to fail doing something you love than at something you don’t care about.
GOALS. Bow down.
